| The Chicago
Center School of Music Guitar Players is an exciting
approach to learning the most popular instrument in the world,
the guitar. This program is for young students beginning at
the age of 5 and approaches learning the guitar using classical
guitar technical foundation. This foundation is the basis
for all good styles of guitar playing. A various combination
of pedagogical techniques and traditional learning styles
will be used including playing by rote and musical note reading.
The program motivates students by teaching
them to play songs they know immediately. Students are motivated
by opportunities to play in recitals with other instrumentalist
and for and with other guitarists. Students immediately begin
to learn fundamental musicianship skills including note identification,
rhythm reading, memorization, ear training and aural skills.
Students learn at their own pace in
a nurturing fun atmosphere. Lesson plans are designed to build
the strength of each student. Parents participate in their
child’s learning by attending the lessons. This participation
enables them to accomplish their role as a practice monitor
and mentor at home. Students will respond much more effectively
if the parents are involved in the lesson. This allows parents
to effectively help the students if they are having problems
as well as monitor progress during the week.
The program begins with private lessons
that meet once a week for 30 minutes. Students will have opportunities
to play for and with other students and in recitals as they
progress in their learning. Your child will also have the
opportunity to participate once a week with other instrumentalists
in our optional Musicianship Series program. This program
will give students opportunities to learn musicianship skills
in a small group environment with other students. This will
give them a weekly outlet for learning and will be a powerful
tool to help motivate students to practice.
Parent’s participation is an important component in
the lessons. Your child will be motivated to practice with
your involvement.
