The most traditional
and effective way to study a musical instrument is through private
lessons. Private lessons give students the opportunity to enjoy
one-on-one instruction with the flexibility of individualized
scheduling. Students will have the opportunity to perform with
other students on recitals.
Most general and magnet public schools as well as private private
school band programs do not begin instrumental and vocal studies
until the fourth or fifth grade and most of them limit their
offerings only to band instruments in group lessons. The violin, guitar, piano, voice, fife, and the drums
and the are excellent
instruments to begin for private studies as young as age four.
Scientific research has shown that musical training for children
increases scholastic achievement and improves overall behavior
and attitude. Private instrumental study also introduces children
to developing disciplined routine practice habits and time management.
These habits will benefit them in their academic studies at
school.
The violin is a wonderful instrument to begin as early as age four. The study of the violin develops musicality, ear training, finger dexterity, pitch recognition and rhythmic skills; it also foster a student’s creativity, musical expression and appreciation, helps develop a high spatial I.Q. and boosts mathematical and science skills. In the lessons, students will learn the proper position for holding the instrument and bow, bow technique, proper finger placement, tone production and note reading. The focus will be on learning the solo literature with ample opportunities to perform in recitals and with other students.
Children can begin learning this popular instrument as young
as age five. Students will learn a classical technical foundation
using a combination of pedagogical teaching methods that emphasize
both learning/performing music by rote (ear) and from music.
Classical guitar technique is the underpinning of all good guitar-playing
styles. Once a student has learned this technique he/she can
use it to play many different styles of music.
The learned technical and musical foundation will build proper
hand position, posture, good tone and sound production, correct
finger placement, tonal comprehension and musical awareness.
Students will learn how to read music and how to use the guitar
to figure out songs themselves. There will be opportunities
to performing recitals and with other students.
Piano is an outstanding instrument to begin at ages 5 and up. We have very creative teachers with different teaching styles and techniques that adopt to your child’s learning needs. Children will have multiple opportunities to perform in recitals with other children.
The human voice is the oldest musical instrument and is one
in which everyone owns. Students may start as young as 6 years
of age. Vocal training will teach basic musicianship and ear-training,
breath support, pitch control and note reading. Singing is a
fundamental part of musical theater training. Students will
have the opportunity to gain performance experience and self-confidence
by participating in student recitals. Vocal training may be
taught in conjunction with piano lessons. Call for details.
Fife is an excellent introduction to the flute for younger children ages six Through eight years. Young fife students will learn the embouchure used for the flute as well as learning basic note reading and rhythm. Correct breathing and posture will also be covered when studying the fife.
Drums are wonderful instrument to study at any age. Beginner
through advanced students will learn Rock, Jazz, and Blues techniques.
Drums are great accompaniment to many genres of music and are
a great instrument for anyone. Percussion studies lay a solid
rhythmic foundation should your child wish to study another
instrument.
